ZoomCare: Easy, Accessible Healthcare in Portland

April 18, 2010

I don’t know about you, but as a 20-something Portland transplant, finding myself a general practitioner hasn’t been on the top of my list (SHOCK, I know!). So, when I came down with a nasty cold during my first Stump Town winter, I didn’t know what to do. If you’ve ever been, you know that urgent care is ALWAYS a nightmare and the emergency room seems a bit over-dramatic unless you’re bleeding profusely (not to mention, I read recently that the average emergency room wait can be up to 24 hours for non-life threatening injuries, but that’s another issue). So, what is a busy girl sans flesh wound to do? Well, ZoomCare, of course!

ZoomCare is a Portland based company with locations in Hawthorne, Tanasbourne, Bridgeport and The Pearl, and scheduling your appointment is easier and faster than ordering takeout! Go to, find your location and pick an open time. You can also call if you’re on the road. All appointments are day-of (except after 8pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends when you can make an appt for the next day).

They are super clean, welcoming and always prompt (hence the “Zoom”) without making you feel rushed. Their doctors and PAs are professional, friendly and knowledgeable, and you can go there for almost anything (but I stick with the basic stuff, colds, flu etc).

Unlike your usual doctor’s office, ZoomCare is all about information. When you leave, they have printouts with additional details about your diagnosis, contact info for nearby hospitals (in case you need additional tests) and an itemized copy of your bill, so you know exactly what each service cost, how much they charged your insurance (if you have it) and how much you are responsible for.

Bottom line: I heart ZoomCare.
