It’s Cinco de Mayo! Are you drinking yet?

May 5, 2010

Cinco de Mayo is one of those amazing days of the year when most people are whole heartedly and enthusiastically celebrating and have no clue what the holiday is about (me included). Ignorance doesn’t stop us, however, as any excuse for a fiesta is a good one.

There are tons of great restaurants in Portland where you can celebrate this fun holiday, but they tend to be understandably PACKED with people on Cinco de Mayo. Couple that with the fact that a giant margarita glass isn’t exactly bumping-in-to-people-friendly and you’re in for a rough night.

Luckily, Food Network (everyone’s savior) is here to help you celebrate Mexico’s victory over the French in the comfort of your own home with these incredible margarita recipes:

This spicy take on the original combines fresh japalenos and limes with orange liquor and of course tequila. Full Recipe

Can’t go wrong with the classic. This one calls for home-made simple syrup (you can do it, I promise). Full Recipe

Another spicy one (can you tell I’m a fan?) This one uses chilli powder and pineapple for something a little different. Sounds great to me! Full Recipe

Home-made joy isn’t for you? Check out these great spots for a made-to-order margarita tonight. Disfrutar!

Casa Del Matator (NW & SE) Happy Hour tonight from 4 to 6.
