A Night of Amazing Wine (and lots of it)

May 8, 2010

Last Thursday, I popped down to the Pearl to taste some of the best wines the Chehalem region has to offer at Pinot in the Pearl. True to Portland, attendees were a mix of some trendy twenty-somethings and stylish, mature wine connoisseurs (with more than a couple mom-jean clad 50 -plus-ers thrown in). Though the company was eclectic, the wine was incredible.

My favorite of the night was Elk Cove Vineyards of Gaston, Oregon – just 25 miles outside of Portland. A family owned and operated gig since 1977, they pride themselves on Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris (of which I bought a bottle). In a close second was Blakeslee Vineyard, which served one of the best Chardonnays I’ve ever tasted.

Unsurprisingly, it was a Pinot Noir party, with all wineries having at least two vintages and some as many as four or five. I also experienced my first white Pinot Noir, which was pretty unbelievable.

Venue Pearl was an stunning space (I never even knew it was there before!) on 13th between Everett and Flanders. Even with minimal styling and decor, the combination of the historic architecture with a hip and industrial feel spoke volumes for the atmosphere of the evening.

Cheers to Pravia Wine & Events for delivering a great night and an amazing event.

See you next year!
